Ultrasound Therapy

Say Goodbye to Aches and Pains with Ultrasound

A Targeted Approach to Tissue Healing

Ultrasound is a specialized physical therapy method that uses mechanical energy to promote healing. It may help manage pain, treat injuries, and improve your ability to perform daily activities.

Therapeutic ultrasound is primarily used to promote tissue healing. At Cutting Edge Physical Therapy, our therapists conduct a thorough evaluation to identify the most appropriate treatment strategies for your specific injury, ailment, or area of pain.

Ultrasound treatments can aid pain relief and increase blood flow to support healing and enhance the quality of tissue repair. If ultrasound is appropriate for your needs, it is incorporated into a treatment plan designed to help you get back to doing what matters most.

Conditions That May Benefit
From Therapeutic Ultrasound

Ultrasound may be considered for a wide range of conditions affecting soft tissue, joints, muscles, ligaments, and connective tissues.

Arthritis & Bursitis

Therapeutic ultrasound may be used as part of a plan for osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis, and bursitis-related pain.

Sprains, Strains & Tendinopathy

Sound-wave energy can be used to address soft tissue disorders, including sprains, strains, and tendinopathy.

Scar Tissue & Pain Syndromes

Ultrasound may help with scar tissue pain and restrictions, carpal tunnel syndrome, and myofascial pain syndrome.

How Does Ultrasound Work?

Ultrasound treatments use sound waves to treat conditions affecting muscles, ligaments, and bones. The waves create vibrations that generate heat in deeper tissues. As tissues vibrate, friction is produced at the molecular level, increasing tissue temperature in ways a heating pack cannot reach.

During treatment, your physical therapist applies gel to the surface of the ultrasound applicator. The gel minimizes friction and promotes transmission of the sound waves, which are absorbed by tendons, ligaments, and connective tissues.

Thermal Benefits

Heat entering deep tissues can help reduce pain, increase blood circulation, make muscle stretching easier, and loosen tight muscles and tendons.

Non-Thermal Benefits

Ultrasound energy can also create tiny gas bubbles around tissues. As these bubbles expand and contract rapidly—a process known as cavitation—they may help repair damaged tissue, including scar tissue, and help loosen muscles.

Is Ultrasound Therapy Right for You?

Your initial appointment includes a physical exam, review of your medical history, and consideration of any health restrictions. Our highly trained physical therapists will create a plan for your specific needs and determine whether ultrasound treatments are appropriate for your condition and symptoms.

If pain or a recent injury is holding you back, Cutting Edge Physical Therapy is ready to help you work toward your optimum level of physical function.
