Sports Injuries

Return to the sport you love with physical therapy

Get Back in the Game

Whether you are a professional athlete or a weekend warrior, Cutting Edge Physical Therapy is here to get you off the sidelines and back in the game.

Any injury sustained during physical activity can be categorized as a sports injury. It can happen while lifting heavy weights at the gym, running in ill-fitted shoes, swinging a bat too aggressively, or rolling an ankle on the soccer field.

Don’t simply wait around for your injury to heal. One of our dedicated physical therapists can help you recover and return to the activities you enjoy. Treating a sports injury as soon as possible is an important part of rehabilitation; your treatment plan and recovery time will vary based on the severity of the injury, your health history, and whether surgical intervention is needed.

Common Sports Injuries

Athletic injuries can affect muscles, tendons, ligaments, bones, and joints. Some of the most common forms include:

Sprains

A sprain occurs when a ligament connecting one bone to another is stretched beyond its limits. Once a ligament is overstretched, it may be more likely to sprain again.

Strains or “Pulled Muscles”

A strain occurs when a tendon connecting muscle to bone is stretched beyond its limits. An overstretched tendon is more likely to be strained again.

Shin Splints

Medial tibial stress syndrome is pain in the shin bones caused by stress placed on the shinbone and the connective tissues around it. Proper footwear, warming up, and strengthening core and leg muscles can help reduce risk.

Knee Injuries

The knee is the body’s most complex joint and one of its most commonly injured areas. Injuries may include aches from hip to knee, repetitive-use problems that limit movement, or more severe injuries such as an ACL tear.

How Physical Therapy Helps Sports Injuries

Our physical therapists are movement experts who can help you reach your physical goals. Your care begins with a diagnostic exam, and your therapist may also review diagnostic tests such as X-rays, MRI, or ultrasound. Your individualized plan takes into account the nature of your injury, fitness level, and lifestyle.

Physical therapy is designed to help you recover from your current injury and reduce the risk of future injuries. Your plan may include manual therapy to improve range of motion and reduce scar tissue, stretches to improve balance and mobility, and strengthening exercises for the injured area and the muscles around it.

Individualized Evaluation

We assess your injury, movement, goals, fitness level, and lifestyle to build care around your specific needs.

Manual Therapy

Manual therapy can increase range of motion and reduce scar tissue as part of a personalized recovery plan.

Strength, Stability & Prevention

Sport-specific training can improve strength, stability, body awareness, jumping, landing, and cutting techniques.
